I meant to write up the pattern to my Thunder Bluff Mittens, and it turns out I kind of forgot / put it off for a whole year. Oops. Well here it is now:

So I finished turning that 4XL skirt into a dress. I opened up the waistband with a seam ripper and put some 1/4″ elastic in there. I added straps and a belt and now I have a new dress.
Helen’s baby quilt
First finished quilt with the new machine! This is a simple 36″X36″ baby quilt for a coworker’s shower.
And heres the back. The front was just one yard of printed squares fabric with woodland creatures, and the back was fabric from my stash. For the quilting I went with squiggly stippling, and I think I did an ok job for my first time. I hated it at first, but its not bad from afar, and any mistakes became unnoticeable after washing.
For the back I also cut out one of the little squares with a bear and added a simple blue border.
For the binding I did a wide rounded corner, and I have to say, not only is it amazing looking, but it was SO MUCH EASIER than corners. I don’t think I will do a mitered corner ever again on a quilt. All in all the quilt took about two hours from fabric to washing machine. Pretty good time I would say. Helen loved it, and I was quite proud of the oohs and aahs at the shower, and even had a couple women ask if I do commissions. I of course do what I always do, and say yes and try to never bring it up again.
Amazing!

Two finished projects in one day, and all before I have to go to work.
One day dress
Sometimes I wake up and think, today I am going to get something done. And thats exactly what I did. I made this dress.
Pattern: New Look 6588 view B
Fabric: under 2 yards, on sale for 3.50 a yard
The only modifications I made were adding bias tape to the necline and armholes, and shortening the hem by around 7 inches. I though the length would be fine until I tried it on and it went mid calf instead of above knee.
I’ve been wearing alot of dresses lately because it has been humid and over 90 degrees here for a week! I’m not a fan of shorts since I haven’t ever found any that look good on my body. I wear jeans all through summer so its nice to wear something a bit cooler.
Quilt top and Pine and Ivy shawl finished
So this weekend I broke in my new(old) machine and finished the quilt top I was working on. It is now made into a quilt sandwich, and ready to be quilted.
I bought this fabric bundle on etsy Friday, and it was shipped to my house already. This is a coordinating fabric set by Heather Ross. I fell in love with the mermaids and octopus prints, as well as the teal gold and orange color scheme. I haven’t decided what kind of quilt to make this into yet.
I also finished knitting the Pine and Ivy shawl I started back in March. Its blocking now, and I can’t wait to do a real photo shoot later this week during the day. The pattern is from Knitspot and I absolutely had to knit it as soon as she posted pictures. It was being test knit for a while before she released it and I was really excited to finally work on it. I knit pretty much nothing but this for the past month, and it was a fun knit.
FO: Wave pattern ear flap hat
I finished another earflap hat, this time for russell.
I also started a wide cable scarf with some yarn from the stash. The yarn is kool wool, and the recommended needle size is 9 or 10. I went up to an 11 to make a looser fabric, and to prevent tightness in the huge cable.
I’ve also been working on Hardangervidda a bit. I finished another ball on the body, and started a sleeve. Theres still alot of work on this one, but I figured I would switch off working on the body and the sleeves to keep it interesting.
I also casted on a sleeve for the Freida sweater from Debbie Bliss’ Alpaca Silk book. I love this sweater. The first version was started years ago when I first started knitting. The front was knit out of a chunky weight yarn because I didn’t care about gauge. When I got to the sleeves, I cared about gauge. Before all the increasing was done this sleeve could have fit a gorilla. So it sat in a bag for 2 years, and now I begin version 2 with a heavy worsted yarn (and a swatch).
