New sewing ideas
Whenever I buy fabric, especially a few cuts, I always forget which is for which when it arrives. I have found several cuts of fabric I bought years ago that are a very specific measurement like 2 and 5/8ths yards, and I can’t remember for the life of me what its for. Some even have corresponding lining and zippers!
I started using polyvore recently to get outfit ideas, but its really a great way to make a collage or idea collection without downloading all the images and opening photoshop. I am lazy by nature so this is great for me!
From left to right: Butterick 5476, McCalls 6070, and Simplicity 2219.
The fabrics are all from fabric.com, and the prices were quite reasonable. I have been very frustrated with the selection of knits at Jo-Ann , especially at 12.99 a yard. The teal on the right is a knit from Moda’s City Weekend (which I have always wanted the set of quilting fabric), and I was able to grab the last two yards they had. Score!
Bliss Quilt Top Done
It looks ridiculously huge on our queen size bed, but once we upgrade to a king it will be great. The red fabric I found at JoAnn, and they had just enough for the border, binding, and about a half yard left that I may use for matching pillowcases.
I woke up to Sam sitting on the bannister this morning.
This is not one of her normal spots, so I took this shot. And not a bad picture either for 7am on a rainy morning with no flash.
Blocks and sashing done!

I ordered the border and backing fabric yesterday and it should be here by next week. I am so excited to have a new quilt for my bedroom.
Time 100 Best Novels
I was thinking the other day about how many novels I haven’t read that I mean to. I work in a library and only know of most classics by name or only a bit of the plot, so I thought it was about time I start reading more. I’m going to attempt to read all 100 of Time’s best novels. These are all published after 1923, the year Time was founded. What I like about this list is that doesn’t remind me of a high school English class, where everything required to read had all the joy sucked out of it by testing and discussions and papers. I’ve crossed out any that I have read, and I didn’t cross out anything I started but didn’t finish. There are a few that I had to read for school and only read the parts I needed to for a test or a book report. Wish me luck.
- The Adventures of Augie March (1953), by Saul Bellow
- All the King’s Men (1946), by Robert Penn Warren
- American Pastoral (1997), by Philip Roth
- An American Tragedy (1925), by Theodore Dreiser
Animal Farm (1946), by George Orwell(read in middle school) Continue reading
Where is spring?

There was frost on the ground this morning, and the cats have been nestled up in the bed. They are cold too!
Hmmmm
It appears as though 2 blocks have gone missing. When I matched all of the blocks up with their mates, I found none missing. So the only answer I can come up with is that I forgot to sew the last strip set together. Oops. Glad I have extra.
Giant skirt refashion done!

So I finished turning that 4XL skirt into a dress. I opened up the waistband with a seam ripper and put some 1/4″ elastic in there. I added straps and a belt and now I have a new dress.
