That is a lot of extra foot room right there

It wouldn’t be so bad, except I made two of them.

Music Monday

I found out about this band a few months back, and this has to be my favorite song of theirs.

In my house, this is known as a yarn party

You wake up one morning, thinking everything will be normal, to find a this. During the night the cats knocked down the sock blockers and dinosaur from the shelf, brought in a sock from the laundry, and managed to find yarn that you thought was well hidden, and wrap it around things.

This morning’s yarn party is not as bad as usual. The standard is waking up to wailing from one of the cats (Sammy usually) to find a ball of yarn in the bedroom, and following the tail all the way downstairs to the project its attached to in the living room.

No matter how hard I try to hide things, they still manage to find them.

Happy New Year!

Not a ton of crafting has been done around here lately. I don’t know what it is about the holidays that leaves me completely drained, but I did not really get any knitting done lately.

The thing I did finish was a quilt for my mom for Christmas. I had planned on making a bunch of people quilts, but that didn’t quite work out.

The pattern is my own, and I used one botany charm pack, a few yards of kona cotton in a mushroom color, and a teal botany print for the back and binding. My mom absolutely loved it, she had seen just the charm packs before hand, but had no idea it was for Christmas and was so surprised.

I am not super into New Years resolutions, since generally I wuss out a few months in, but I wanted to get started on organizing my house. This started last summer, a little bit at a time, decluttering our clothing, kitchen items, and some books. The large daunting task is the office / sewing room / storage for all my crafting crap.

This is what my sewing desk looks like. Awful. I did make a small effort with a neat bar on the wall to hold misc sewing supplies, rotary cutter, scissors, and quilting rulers. The shelf above makes me angry just looking at it.

This corner contains a bookshelf for all my knitting and quilting books and magazines. To the right of that are fabric cubes containing knitting needles and yarn (mostly lace weight or sock weight.)

The closet is by far the worst part, since it looks innocent enough.

Bam! Disgusting. I’m going to blame this on the cats. Anyone who owns cats and crafts knows that they get into EVERYTHING, and I have an especially mischievous one. Stuff just gets thrown in there so that its out of sight and safe from kitty claws.

The bins themselves are somewhat organized, pictured here are fabric scraps organized by color. The problem I guess is a better way to store these bins. Blerg. I will tackle this soon, just after I finish staring at it for a little while longer.
