New Wave Quilt

My New Wave quilt is totally done. It only took a day to make the quilt sandwich, safety pin it all together, quilt, and cut out the binding. The binding itself I did the next day, and each side took about one episode of X-Files to hand stitch. I decided to just follow the seam lines for the quilting, and I think it turned out great. I used cotton batting this time, and the difference is tremendous. Its so soft, and the fabric became all crinkly. I’m sure Dan and Wendy will love it.

Dress crisis averted!

So I have an issue with dresses. I have had lots of weddings to attend lately, and I feel like I can no longer wear an older one, just in case someone notices that I’ve worn it before. I have gone shopping a few times in the past couple months to get something for my brother in law’s upcoming June wedding, but I am extremely picky and have a unique body shape so its been quite difficult.

With one month left, I decided to try and sew something, that way if it doesn’t work out, I can still try and find something last minute. Thankfully though, everything worked out and I came up with this:

I’m in love with it. It fits well, after some adjusting of the darts. The pattern is New Look 6586, fabric from my stash, and belt from another dress. The whole thing was cut out and sewn over two days, with the exception of the hem, which I always put off. All I need is some jewelry and a clutch and I’m all set to go.

I also finished the top to a quilt I’m working on.

The pattern is the New Wave Quilt from Oh Fransson. It was a pretty easy pattern, and really fast. This will be a wedding present for my brother in law’s fiancee, who loves purple. Now I just have to figure out what kind of backing to have.

I finished my quilt! This is the second quilt I have finished in my life, the other being the one I made in 7th grade. I have made several tops over the years, but never got past that step.

The blocks aren’t perfectly straight, the quilting isn’t real even, and some of the chalk didn’t wash out. I don’t care, its going on the bed tonight. I love it that much.

Vala seems to like it too.
