I woke up way too early this morning and decided to teach myself how to smock. The result is this pillow:

I used 2 fat quarters. The first I cut down to a 16×16 piece, then drew a grid on the back side in chalk. I then used this tutorial to make the lattice smocking, which only took about an hour. Then I cut the back piece to roughly the size of the front, and then cut it square using a rotary cutter and mat. All that was left was to sew it up, stuff it, and hand stitch it closed.
Overall the easiest sewing project I’ve done in a while and only took about 2 hours. The finished result is a little small ( 8×8 ) so I’ll give this one to my mom. But now that I know how to do it, I think I’ll use the lattice smocking technique on some large pillows for my bed.
Only about a month away until I move out and I’m very excited. I should probably get started on sewing the duvet cover and curtains for Russell and my room.
